Jiu Jitsu
Your First Class
We will pair you up with an experienced training partner who will help guide you through movement drills and techniques. Unless you have past experience you’ll sit with a coach during live sparring who will describe the techniques being used in class and answer your questions.
-
Arrive hydrated and bring a water bottle.
-
Wear clothing that you can move in without restriction such as sweatpants, athletic shorts, and a tight fitting Tee shirt but nothing with pockets, metal snaps, or zippers. Shorts should be close to knee length.
Uniforms
-
Shoes: We recommend you wear or bring a pair of flip flops/slip on sandals to class. Bare feet are allowed only on the mat and you are required to wear shoes at all times when you are off the mat.
-
Mouthguards: Students with braces on their teeth are required to wear a mouthguard. They are optional for everyone else.
-
Braces and Knee Pads: Must be made of soft material with no plastic or metal parts.
-
Athletic Supporters: Cups are not allowed in class or tournaments due to risk of injury to training partners. Cups are illegal in most tournaments.
Gi Classes
-
Belts: Students buy their white belt. Color belts are awarded at the time of promotion.
-
Females: Wear a tight fitting shirt or rash guard under their gi top and spats or volleyball shorts under their gi pants.
